What is a Dynamic Electricity Tariff

A dynamic electricity tariff adjusts to the hourly market electricity prices. This means you can take advantage of especially low-cost periods to reduce your energy costs. Unlike fixed tariffs, which charge fixed prices, a dynamic tariff allows for flexible adjustments based on market developments. This is particularly beneficial for businesses with high energy consumption, such as retail, warehousing, automotive and sports clubs, looking to optimize their operating costs.

The dynamic tariff is based on the hourly day-ahead market electricity price. This price is continuously updated to reflect the current market rate.

In the LUOX Portal (also available as an app), you can see the dynamic tariff - the actual market electricity price, which is   passed on to you 1:1 with a small markup of 3%.  Through the LUOX Portal, you can manage your contract and adjust personal data. And have full transparency and control over your energy consumption and electricity costs.

This is how the Pricing Model works

Our pricing model is transparent and easy to understand. The dynamic tariff is based on hourly market electricity prices plus a surcharge of 3%. This allows you to benefit from low market prices and effectively reduce your energy costs.

By flexibly adjusting to market prices, you can optimize your energy consumption strategies and achieve significant cost savings. Additionally, only a small monthly fee is charged. We will waive the procurement costs for the entire year of 2024 and 2025.

Requirements

For the dynamic tariff, you need an intelligent metering system (iMSys). Behind this, flexible loads such as heat pumps, wall boxes and batteries can be connected. The total consumption is measured via a single meter. The feed-in from a PV system can also be measured through the same meter. If the consumption of your heat pump or wall box is measured via a separate meter, you currently cannot sign a contract for these meters. If you do not yet have an iMSys, you can easily order one during the ordering process.

Frequently asked questions

How do dynamic electricity tariffs work for businesses?

Dynamic electricity tariffs adjust in real time or at short intervals based on current market prices. With a smart metering system (iMSys), you as a business can accurately measure your energy consumption and optimize it in line with fluctuating prices. This allows you to purchase electricity at lower prices during off-peak times, reducing operational costs while promoting the use of renewable energy.

Why do electricity market prices fluctuate?

Electricity market prices are influenced by numerous factors. These include political events at home and abroad, the general availability of and demand for electricity at specific times of day or year, as well as other economic and weather-related conditions.

How can I tell if I have a smart metering system?

The communication unit (smart meter gateway) is visibly attached to the base meter, a modern metering device with a digital display. It currently exists only in models from four BSI-certified manufacturers: Theben AG, PPC – Power Plus Communications AG, EMH metering GmbH and Sagemcom Dr. Neuhaus. If your digital meter has a communication module attached, the manufacturer’s name should be visible on it. This name must match one of the four certified manufacturers. If not, your device is not considered a smart metering system. For more details, see our knowledge article “Smart Metering and iMSys.”

What are the benefits of dynamic electricity tariffs for businesses?

Thanks to our flexible pricing model, you can consume more electricity when prices are low and benefit from the most competitive rates on the market.

Is there a price guarantee with the dynamic tariff?

The dynamic nature of the tariff results from the hourly fluctuations of electricity exchange prices. Accordingly, your energy rate changes every hour throughout the day. In addition, grid fees, levies, charges and taxes set by government regulations may change. These changes are always passed on to you without any markup. LUOX Energy provides a price guarantee only for the components of the tariff that we control. These include the monthly LUOX Energy fee and the variable service charge. If a price adjustment becomes necessary for these components, we will notify you one month in advance.
